Where History Meets Innovation, Perfect Blend of Culture and Cuisine - Bologna Italy - DAY3

As we bid farewell to the beautiful scenery of Lake Como, we embarked on a road trip through Italy's picturesque countryside. Our first stop was the city of Parma, where we marveled at the stunning cathedral built over 900 years ago.


Exploring Parma:

After admiring the cathedral, we headed to the National Museum, which houses an original work by the renowned artist Leonardo da Vinci. We then enjoyed a delicious lunch in the charming streets of Parma, indulging in the local specialties of Parmesan cheese and Parma ham. As we wandered around, we were struck by the beauty of the three main churches and the picturesque River Po.


Arriving in Bologna:

In the early afternoon, we arrived in the lively city of Bologna and checked into the I Portici Hotel, which was conveniently located near the city center and train station. Eager to explore, we set out on foot to explore the city's bustling Via de Indepencia, which led us to the magnificent Neptune Fountain in the main square. We were awed by the grandeur of the Basilica Di San Petronilo and indulged in a delectable snack of ham, cheese, and wine at Restaurant Simone.


A Night in Bologna:

As the evening approached, we settled in a square near the Neptune Fountain at Nicola Pizzeria Ristorante, savoring delicious pizza and Italian wine while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of Bologna.


Exploring Bologna:

The next morning, we returned to the Basilica Di San Petronilo and climbed to the rooftop terrace for breathtaking views of the city. We then visited the Museum and University of Bologna, marveling at the impressive anatomical theatre and richly decorated library. We also explored the historic Archiginnasio of Bologna and admired the coats of arms of former students carved into the walls.



Food Culture in Bologna:

No trip to Bologna is complete without indulging in the local cuisine, and we couldn't resist the mouthwatering aromas emanating from the Mercato di Mezzo. We sampled the fresh pasta, cheeses, meats, and wines, relishing the flavors of traditional dishes such as tortellini in brodo and tagliatelle al ragù.



Conclusion:

Our journey through Italy's rich history and food culture had been an unforgettable experience. From the stunning cathedrals of Parma to the vibrant streets of Bologna, we had explored some of Italy's most iconic landmarks and indulged in its culinary delights. We knew that this was just the beginning of our love affair with Italy and looked forward to exploring more of this beautiful country, next, can’t wait to get to Florence.

1. Climb the Asinelli Tower: Bologna is famous for its numerous towers, but the Asinelli Tower is the tallest and most iconic. Climbing the tower is a must-do activity in Bologna, offering stunning views of the city and its surroundings. The 498-step climb can be a bit challenging, but the view from the top is definitely worth it.


2. Visit the Museum of Modern Art: Bologna has a rich artistic heritage, and the Museum of Modern Art (MAMbo) is a great place to explore the city's contemporary art scene. The museum showcases a wide range of works by Italian and international artists, from paintings and sculptures to installations and multimedia art. The building itself is a work of art, with its sleek modern design and spacious galleries.
